Students in Mitchell High Drafting classes in the 2023-24 school year completed their Autodesk Certified User exams this year. The Autodesk Certified User (ACU) certification is an industry-recognized credential that can effectively start students’ careers as designers, engineers, and makers. It enhances students' higher ed applications and resumes by providing evidence of competency and proficiency. The certification is an excellent way for students with about 150 hours of real-world Autodesk software experience to validate their software skills. Earning this level of certification while in school will give students confidence as they continue to master Autodesk products and pursue professional-level certification in the future.
A total of 93 out of 96 students passed their certifications across all drafting classes in the 2023-24 school year. Santiago Chavez-Salvador scored a perfect 1000 on his first attempt at ACU AutoCAD certification. Congratulations to all students on this outstanding accomplishment!
Students in Engineering Drafting 2 Fall 2023 who passed the ACU Inventor exam are (L to R) Rylan Cooper, Clayton Geouge, Jace Blanton, Gage Fitzgerald, Camron Cook, Isaiah B. Williams, Adam White, Annika Ryerse, Hayden Ledford, Colton McClellan, Troy Gouge, Roy Fabian-Tehandon, Ryan Harris, Isaiah C. Williams, Chance Clark, Alexis Sanchez-Guardian

Mitchell County Career & Technical Education received the Dogwood Grant this year, and part of the grant was intended to strengthen our current CTE Internship Program. Because of that, the Mitchell High School Paid Internship Program was designed to provide students with real-world work experience while completing their high school education. It aims to prepare students for their future careers by bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical experience. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, eligible Mitchell High CTE Internship students received a $500 stipend as recognition of their commitment and achievements at their internship.
Mrs. Barnett and the entire CTE family would like to congratulate our senior interns on a fabulous semester! Best of luck in all of your future endeavors as you leave Mitchell!

On Friday, May 10th, our seniors from the Class of 2024 had an amazing day at the Mitchell High School CTE-sponsored Health Careers Fair! Thanks to a generous health career awareness grant, our students had the incredible opportunity to explore a variety of health career pathways and connect with industry professionals.
For the event, seniors were able to visit the booths set up outside and talk to a variety of health career businesses eager to share job opportunities and valuable career information. It was a fantastic way for our future graduates to network and discover their potential in the industry. After students toured the booths, the celebration continued with a fun-filled senior appreciation lunch, including Chick-fil-A for the seniors and industry reps! Afterward, seniors played games in the circle, listened to music, and took part in exciting drawings for gift cards and prizes, generously provided by the grant and our amazing career fair representatives.
Mitchell CTE would like to send a huge thanks to everyone who made this event possible and memorable. (Participants included: Mayland Community College, MCHP, Blue Ridge Hospital, HCA, and Galen College of Nursing, Mitchell Medics, The Greens of Spruce Pine, ECU Dental School, Hospice and Home Care of Blueridge, the Prescription Pad, YMCA Healthy Living, Stewart's Mountain View Vet, and the Mitchell County Health Department.) Our seniors are now more inspired than ever to embark on their health career journey!

Students enrolled in Mitchell High School’s Career and Technical Education Health Science Classes recently earned their OSHA Healthcare certification. After learning the curriculum about healthcare safety and infection control procedures, students completed an online OSHA safety course. The course provides training for entry-level workers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces, as well as information regarding workers' rights and employer responsibilities. Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers have the knowledge they need to stay safe on the job. Students who complete the CareerSafe OSHA 10-Hour General Industry (Healthcare) course receive a US Department of Labor OSHA 10-Hour General Industry card—a credential that holds value for a lifetime.

On Monday, May 6th students during each block at Mitchell High School participated in SECU's Reality of Money Event, provided by Mitchell CTE and the SECU. For the event, State Employees Credit Union staff, and school and community volunteers helped students walk through a financial simulation where they paid bills for a month using a fictional career and monthly income. They were required to pay expenses at stations like Housing, Transportation, Child Care, Groceries and Medical Insurance. The last stop was the Next Payday station, where volunteers and SECU staff saw if they were wise in spending and budgeting their money and gave advice on how to further stretch their dollars and make sound financial decisions. This event truly helps to teach MHS students the "Reality of money.". Stephanie McClellan and CTE would like to send a special Thanks to Kim Stephenson and Caleb Hoyle of the SECU - Spruce Pine branch for their help in coordinating this event.

Mrs. Boones, Mitchell High Food and Nutrition I class, participated in a "Chopped Competition" this week. Judges were Mr. Carver, Mrs. MCClellan, and Mrs. Murphy. The students were provided with a variety of ingredients to make a dish for judging. These students had to incorporate two ingredients in their dish as a requirement (chives and protein). This was the final cooking lab for this semester. All kitchens turned in a quality product but Kitchen 4 came out the winner. Those students will be provided lunch by Mrs. Boone as their reward! Congratulations to all these Foods 1 students for a job well done!

Senior Portraits included in your school’s yearbook will require students dressed in either a Black Drape
or a Tuxedo. Prestige will provide these outfits at the time of your session. Please wear appropriate
undergarments under these outfits. We suggest a white t-shirt for the tux and something strapless to wear
under the drape. Also, don’t forget to bring up to two outfits for your casual pictures!

Mitchell High School CTE would like to say congratulations to the following students in Mrs. Barnett's Entrepreneurship II Honors course: Anaya Jackson, Valeria Procopio, Macie Greene, Rachel VanBrederode, Isaiah Williams, Ian Ledford, and Alex Gouge for becoming Entrepreneurship and Small Business certified.
The Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification from Certiport ensures tomorrow's leaders are prepared with the toolkit they need to get ahead in today's competitive landscape. ESB validates students' understanding of core business principles, including the essentials of launching and maintaining a successful company, planning for, starting, and operating a business, marketing and sales, and business financials and funding.
Congratulations on this awesome achievement!
