Students enrolled in Foods and Nutrition I at Mitchell High School with Mrs. Stephanie McClellan, Mrs. Katie Boone, and Mrs. Adrienne Snyder recently earned their ServSafe Foodhandler Certification. This certification covers the basics of food safety and preventing foodborne illness at home and in the food service industry. Students learned about these topics as part of their curriculum and then had the opportunity to take the test to certify with this nationally recognized credential as part of their CTE course.

Mitchell High FFA had 14 members attend the 2023 National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana in November. The students attending were able to attend a variety of workshops, view exhibits, and learn more about agriculture. During the trip, they also toured the Lousiville Slugger facility and museum and the Kentucky Derby golf course and museum. The trip was a great leadership and learning experience for the FFA students and they enjoyed the opportunity to attend this trip with their FFA Advisor and MHS CTE Instructor Mr. Chad Huggins.

As part of National Career Development Month, Mrs. Boone invited Anthea Biddix to speak to her Early Childhood Education classes. Anthea is the Mitchell County Preschool Coordinator. Anthea discussed the process of evaluation for preschool students and her role in providing those services in Mitchell County. The students were able to learn what she does on a daily basis and what services are provided for preschool students. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about a career related to Early Childhood Education.

The Mitchell High School FCCLA recently participated in a service project to raise funds for the Safe Place facility. MHS FCCLA (Family Career and Community Members Organization) student members have worked to raise funds to purchase pajamas, blankets, and other baby items for those in need. FCCLA recognizes the importance of the family unit and its role in society. These students worked hard with their candy corn fundraiser and selling nachos and ice cream sundaes at MHS homecoming to make a difference in their community! The Mitchell High FCCLA student organization members would like to thank their CTE FCCLA Advisor, Mrs. Katie Boone for helping them throughout this service project.
