Mitchell County Schools was notified late this afternoon by Mitchell County Health Department that a student at Mitchell High School has been diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Mitchell County Health Department or Mitchell High School on Monday.

SUN Bucks: A new food assistance program for school children. Starting this summer, families that qualify can expect to receive $120 per eligible child in grocery-buying benefits on a debit-like card. Mitchell County Schools will be closed today, Friday, March 1st. Mixed precipitation is falling in areas of the county and is forecast to continue in areas throughout the morning. This will be a Schedule 2 Workday for staff.

Mitchell County Schools is thrilled to announce that our new school Mitchell Elementary/Mitchell Middle will be opening in August 2024! We are thankful to Vannoy, Cope Architecture, and all of the sub-contractors for working tirelessly to make this possible. An August move in will be much smoother for our students and staff. The state-of-the-art facilities will be a wonderful place for our students to thrive and for our staff to work. We will keep everyone posted as we prepare for the opening in August. Due to the current weather conditions across the county, Mitchell County Schools will operate on a TWO HOUR DELAY today, Tuesday, February 13, 2024. We will continue to monitor conditions. If further changes to our schedule are necessary, that decision will be made by 7:30am.

For the students from Yancey county, if you are unable to get to MECHS tomorrow then you will still have access to the lessons. The MECHS teachers will attach videos and/ or the notes from the lessons on the Canvas class page. As of right now we are still on a regular schedule but that could change in the morning.

Due to snow that has fallen in parts of our county today and overnight forecasts for additional snow, Mitchell County Schools will be on a 2 hour delay Monday, January 29. We will assess conditions in the morning and make a decision by 7:30am, if a change in schedule is necessary

Mitchell County Schools will be on a regular schedule Wednesday, January 24. Buses will run safe roads only.

Mitchell County Schools will be on a 2 hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, January 23. We understand that there are a few roads that buses will be unable to run and will try to post those to social media later tonight. If you still have concerns with safe travel in the morning, please contact your principal.

Monday January 22 will be a teacher work day. The school building will be open and staff on site if students would like to stop by for tutoring or technological assistance.

Mitchell County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 22 for students. It will be a Schedule 3 Teacher Workday. There will be no remote learning for students. Staff, please report on Schedule 3 so maintenance and custodial staff can clear parking lots and sidewalks.
